Shortly after becoming Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Timothy Halman passed new legislation – the Environmental Goals and Climate Change Reduction Act –which is Nova Scotia’s roadmap to sustainable prosperity. The Act’s 28 goals are designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, transition Nova Scotia to clean energy, grow the province’s circular economy and make sure Nova Scotia has a sustainable future.
In December 2024, he was appointed Minister of Service Efficiency and tasked with streamlining government processes and regulations to ensure rules are clear, modern, efficient, and improve how government serves Nova Scotians.
Timothy Halman was first elected to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly in 2017 and was re[1]elected in 2021 and 2024. Prior to his career in Government and as a Member of the Legislature, he was a teacher at Woodlawn High School in Dartmouth, where he worked to engage youth in the political process. He helped set up a Student Vote Program at the school, and in 2014 was named Canada’s Everyday Political Citizen of the Year. In 2015, he was nominated by the Halifax Regional School Board for the Superintendent’s Award for Teaching Excellence. His previous community service includes work with Big Brothers/Sisters, the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation, and youth athletics at Woodlawn High School.
Timothy Halman was born in Montreal, but spent his childhood in Cole Harbour and Dartmouth where he lives today with his wife Christine and their four children. Timothy Halman attended University in Montreal and returned home to Nova Scotia in 2002.
